...I suck at blogging. In real life I need structure to thrive, but somehow blogging on a schedule doesn't work out for me. I felt like I had to post regularly to be a proper blogger and to earn the attention of my followers. I also felt I had to say something incredibly interesting every time I post. This is a very challenging combination: regularly and incredibly interesting... So I ended up not blogging, which is the complete opposite and I lost some followers because of it.
So thank you to all of you who decided to stick around. And even though I'm not blogging on a schedule anymore, I plan on blogging more often than once every two years :)
I'm in my last year at art school. Right now I'm doing my internship at a company for children's theatre. It's a lovely company, but hard work. I'm not good at making someone else's ideas come to life. I'm having a hard time not being able to put my creative mind to work and 'just' make whatever others tell me to make. But I guess that's the fate of every intern.
Come november I'll be done and I can start the whole graduation process, which is three difficult steps. I'm looking forward to it though and also to whatever comes after graduation. My heart smiles at the thought of being a professional artist and all the adventures that will bring me :)
The dollshouse is also very much in my life. It's a slow, but very satisfying process. I'll have to post some pictures soon of the new kitchen and bathroom. I wanted to join in the HBS Creatin' Contest, but the shipping costs of the starter kit made it way expensive sadly. I had such a fun idea for that little farmhouse! Maybe next year...
And yes I'm still together with my man and I'm still owned by my two cats. I love my little family!
So how are all of you doing?

I realize I haven't been around at all in the last three months. Wow three months rush by like crazy! Just a quick summary of what happened, so that when I want to get back to blogging, I won't have to explain everything :)
One of the best things is that our cats are doing great. Saphira is always the graceful, silly, angelic rascal and Luna is growing into the biggest baby I've ever seen. She just turned one year old in september and is now already a whopping 5.4 kilos (almost 12 pounds)! Yet she produces the sweetest purry sounds and is too much of a coward to even jump three feet. They both make me laugh at least twice every day :)
On a lesser note, I had Infectious mononucleosis, a.k.a. mono, which made me tired for two months straight and is still sometimes nagging my bones. I'm not one to nag back though, so I get on with my life and let mono nag.
School is crazy fun, but also crazy busy, because I want to make the best of every assigment I get. I sometimes feel some of the classes are shallow and spend more time showing me what I could learn instead of actually teaching it to me. I'm working on this with my tutor and he understands :)
I followed poetry classes for the last 8 weeks and I loved it! So much that I erased most of the books on my birthday wishlist and replaced them with poetry books (Ginsberg, Wilmink and Villon if you must know). For his birthday I took my dad, also a poetry lover, to see a dance show of the Noord Nederlandse Dans, a
professional dance company in my city. The choreographer worked with American beat poet Derrick C. Brown to make a dance piece set on a poem. I met Derrick at school, where he taught one of my poetry classes and I really like his work. It's accessible and dreamy and Derrick has a beautiful voice. More information(in English) on the really great perfomance and its artists is here.
I'm still crocheting like crazy. I made a bunch of bracelets, a big bunny for my sister, a little bunny for me, a monster purse for a friend's birthday (see below), a bigger purse for myself (which I still have to line with fabric) and I'm working on a scarf and vest for myself. Crocheting is a form of therapeutical distraction of everything else that is going on in my life. I love making my own unique pieces and the crafting with my hands makes me calm and happy.

So life is pretty good here and this seems to be one of the first autumns in my life when I see how beautiful its colors really are and how much pretty color combinations make me happy.

I really can't complain. I live in one house with the best man in the whole wide world and two gorgeous fourlegged furfriends. I also happen to have the best mom anyone could want and I'm a pretty good cook and designer to be. Also, my nine year old sister called me from Italy last week just to tell me she missed me and she wanted to talk to me ♥
I have a good life. So I shouldn't complain about trifling stuff such as the weather... Still, it's august darn it! It's been raining like crazy and it's only 20 °C outside! My sunspot on the balcony has drowned and the view has been a dull shade of grey.
So what's a girl to do?
Make tea first and the best of it second!
So I drank nettle-cranberry-lemongrass tea (yum!) and set to work. I bought some fresh mint and made 'green pasta'. Very tasty and very healthy. Oh and very vegan too, much to the concern of the forementioned best man in the world. Maybe I should post the recipe?
I had wanted to make a photo wall for ages and I finally did it! It looks great and I had so much fun going through old photos :)
And here's a closeup of one of my favourites. I wish I still had that hair color I had when I was four... Funny though, I have an appointment with a hairdresser tuesday and I want bangs. I think I haven't had bangs since I was four!

And this afternoon I redid a white tshirt I bought at the thrift store yesterday for only 4 euros. I got the idea from Trish (http://genuinemudpie.ca). She really knows how to spice up plain or boring clothes :)
Trish if you're reading this, I'm sorry I also copied the stripes and the blue, but I was so inspired by your shirt!
Here it is hanging soaked wet after hand washed some of the paint out. That's me taking a picture in the light of the setting sun peeping through the blinds. I thought it made the photo quite funny. The shirt's not finished yet, but I wanted to show you the great watery lines it has. I love it already! And it's white of course, just looks yellow because of the sunlight (we had sunlight today hurray).

It's alive!
Yes I'm still alive. I was planning to post weekly in the summer, since school work isn't keeping me occupied. Turns out, without classes I have little routine and summer weeks seem to be a lot fuller than school weeks.
I got a new camera from my mother, sweet angel she is. It's a Canon DSLR camera and I'm totally thrilled to use it, so the pictures on my blog are going to be a better quality from now on. I really want to do a fotoshoot of the dollhouse, so keep a look out for that :)
The giveaway prizes are in the mail and the bug swap doll is also on it's way. So now I have time for the video compilation I've been asked to do and for script writing that I should have been doing all summer. I was halfway through when I realized I didn't like the way the story was coming together, so I started over and now I have only one act to show for... Oh well, it'll work out! I've also written another short story for a film competition. Second week of september they'll let me know wether or not I'm through to the second round.
Lastly I'm thinking of doing a short animated film for another competition, but I'm not sure if it will be done in time. If not, then no harm done, because I love making stop motion stuff and I want to take it a little further than I have done so far. That means more work, but also more of me in the end result :) When it's done I'll post it here of course!
So you see I keep myself busy, but only doing fun stuff. Maybe once school starts I'll have more time to blog regularly...
This is Looney by the way, she's so big already! September 3rd is her first birthday and already she's 4.5 kilos! Click the pic for better detail on her gorgeous coat and cute polydactyl paws :)

I need miniature help
The floors are laid, the walls are painted and so what if I still have to install windows and lighting? I have had a lot of fun shifting around collected furniture in my dollhouse and I'm completing the plan in my head of what I which style I want to go for. It's going to be contemporary, but not to modern. It's going to have a slight under-the-sea theme, but I'll try to avoid the clichés. I want to incorporate some design classics that I love, which brings me to the help I need.
I want a (round or oval) tulip dining table in 1" scale, but I can't find one! I love Saarinen's design and if there was space in my home I would so buy the Ikea Docksta, which is basically a cheaper version. Both links from apartment therapy :)
I wouldn't mind buying, but I would mind spending more than 40 euros (55 dollars). I wouldn't mind building either and I have some cool metal or plexiglass to make a table top. But I have no clue what to use for the base that will make it smooth and shiny. Anyone have any ideas or links?
In case you don't know what kind of table I'm talking about, here's some yummy eyecandy (in life size)

I have to get this off my chest
I just recieved an email from one of my teachers that I've gotten a whole point deduction on my written report. My answers resembled another girl's answers too much so he punished the both of us with deducting a point. The thing that really really sucks is that I tried to help out that girl by sending her some information I'd putten in my report. I thought she might want the extra help, because she was struggling with the assignment. Turns out she just copied my answers and now I'm being accused of plagiarism!!
I'm so angry and disappointed and I don't know what to do. I've emailed my teacher that it sucks being accused of this and I would never do that sort of thing. I've gotten straight eights for this class the whole year and now I have a 6.6. It's still enough to pass the class, but it still sucks big time. I've also emailed my classmate that this is not what I'd expected her to do with my help and that I'm hurt she did it. She never even thanked me for sending the information...
The better way to go is probably to let it rest here, but part of me just wants to tell the whole thing to the teacher since I have proof she got the words from me and not the other way around. I know how childish that is, but it feels so unfair to be punished for helping someone :(
Sorry for ranting, but this really bothers me...

Finally the winner
I'm back from my trip and healthy as a horse. So I treated sweet little Luna to some playtime with paper pellets. She loves those and even wakes up when she hears someone fiddling with paper. So I thought it would be nice to let her pick a winner for the giveaway :)
I loved reading all of your comments and visiting your blogs. That accounts for all of my new followers by the way, there's 70 of you now! Really makes me happy :D It's so much fun browsing blogs and finding out what keeps people going.
And I have so much to show you! Let's do that first and keep the tension of the giveaway winner going...
As said, I was at a friend's house who has her own international dollhouse business. She sells (swarovski) beads and metal ornaments small enough to fit a dollhouse. She also designs and sells lamps for the dollhouse, which are amazing I think. Thirdly she sells kits so you can build your own lamp or decoration for the dollhouse. We created some lamps together last week and we had a blast doing it! I'll show you the pictures of the things I made and you can visit her website here: http://www.nalladris.eu/
If you want to try your hand at making lamps, this is a great opportunity. Sun is helpful and friendly and willing to ship worldwide.
As this is my blog I'm allowed to advertise a little for an awesome friend right? :)
Now for the pictures!
I got my hands on some gold beads and those got my creative juices flowing. The house is going to have a fishy/underwatery/seasidish feel about it so I made a mobile with litterally 'gold'fish.

One of my favourite kinds of fish is the veiltail goldfish. They are elegant and squat at the same time and I can spend hours watching their veiltails glide through the water. So I made a veiltail lamp with koi colours for the living room. She meisures about 4cm or 1.5 inch and has a little light in her body.

Then I remembered I had an owl theme for the little girls bedroom so I made an owl bedside lamp for that. It just screamed white and pink with an overdosis of cute :) It measures less than an inch, about 1cm and also has a little light in the body.

And to show you an example of what my friend Sun was working on while I was with her: her newest shabby chic chandelier, with real light of course! It measures about 6 cm or 2.5 inch and features swarovski teardrop pendants. The picture really doesn't do them justice as they sparkle beautifully in real life.

Since this was still a vacation week for me and I painted the larger part of the house last week, I worked on the little girls room. There's still now windows and many holes in the ceiling, but that didn't stop me from designing and putting in some miniatures I've collected over the years. I made a modern desk with shelves from wood and plastic. Here's a little blurry (not happy with this) preview.

Okay okay I'll satisfy your curiosity and draw a winner now. Or actually, two winners! I gave Luna the pile of pellets and she walked off with two of them in her mouth. I didn't catch that on camera though. After stealing them away from her I read two names:
Kim and LeJenMiniatures! Congratulations! Please email me your address at wittedraak (at) live (dot) nl
I will start working on your gifts today and I'll let you know when they go in the mail.
Well, I'm off creating now. See you soon :)

The giveaway
I'm late, I'm late, I know! And I'm sorry!
School was totally crazy the last two weeks and I came down with some nasty cold. I'm staying with a friend for a couple of days now, so you'll have to be a little more patient. I apologize and will add a little extra for the long wait.
See you soon!

Yesterday
I was having such a fun night out with some friends. There was a festival in town called the Night of Art and Science that involves all kinds of live music, art exhibitions, lectures and cool interactive games (you could have your heartrate matched to someone else's, the museum of modern art was open, there were short plays and so much more). We were listening to a concert of the Dutch band Go Back To The Zoo. Watch the video below if you're curious.
After one of the songs we went to get drinks and meet up with my boyfriend who was also on his way. Somehow, I took a wrong step and twisted my knee. My kneecap popped out. OUCH! I had the same thing happen when I was 16 so I knew how to pop it back in, so I did. We went to the first aid post and got some help. I went home in a taxi and slept crappy because I had to lie on my back. The knee is okay today, no kneebands are ripped, it's just swollen, a little painful and stiff. I'm going to my doctor tomorrow to see what else I can do.
Apparently, I'm not allowed to have a fun night out... This was my first try in three months. At least I got to see some cool stuff before the fall!

It's still me
...just a different look. So you're not lost, you're still here. I was tired of the dots and I wanted something more fresh and more me. So here is the new look! Hope you like it, I know I do.
I really should be off to bed now, really tired and it's almost 01:00 AM... Sorry for the first pictureless post, but I can't do photo editing anymore, not at this time of night lol.

Checking in
I just noticed there's more people following me and I'd like to give you a warm welcome :)
Also, don't forget to sign up for the giveaway. I'm crocheting like crazy lately. Well, that is on moments that I don't have to catch up on school work. Only three more weeks and evaluation day is here again. And I still have soooo much work to do!

The plastic crocheted dress was an enormous succes, I'll post some decent photo's of it soon. Here are two shots that show the dress in action so you have some idea.

Flowers for the pretty lady
About three weeks ago it was my mom's birthday and I celebrated by staying for the weekend. We shopped at the thrift store, ate cake, barbecued in the back yard, watched silly cartoons and had a blast. We also did something we talked about doing for ages: we got my old toys from the attic and went through them. We had so much fun just digging through dolls' clothes and barbies! I used to love my barbies and I was so careful with them. They still have all of their original hairdo's, outfits and even shoes! I could even remember when I got most of them and who gave them to me.
I found a bag of barbie clothes and went through those too. I got to the Kelly stuff and had an interesting idea. What if I try some of Kelly's clothes on Alice? Most of it was too wide or too short, but the sneakers were a match and I came up with a cute outfit. The purse is original nineties fake barbie, but I kinda like it. I remember playing with that purse (it opens!) and it completes the outfit, so it came home with me :)
I think someone in the miniature world must have noticed Alice looking fabulous. This week when I walked through my street I saw a gorgeous tree blossoming in a radiant pink. I smelled it, but went on, not thinking any more about it. But yesterday there was a miniature bouquet of them on our doorstep with a little note that had Alice's name on it.
Here she is holding them. Aren't they pretty? I have no idea what they are, but they look like tiny peonies to me :)
They smell good too and they grow in little groups which makes them perfect dollhouse bouquets. I'm not sure how long they'll last, but I might try and dry them.
For now, we've put them in a vase with water and placed them in the windowsill of the stray house.

Chaplin & Crochet Costume
We were lucky yesterday! I brought some garbagebags to keep our legs dry, plus we sat under the trees. It rained for about 20 minutes and then it stopped :)
The movie was wonderful and the live music made the images come alive. I had such a blast and I hope the theatre club that organised it will do this again next year!
Here's a little collage of low quality phone pictures I took for you. In the upper left is what they called the emergency lighting lol.
As for the crochet... A classmate was asked some weeks ago to do the design for a play that a couple of history students are performing. She asked around for help and me and another girl ended up designing two dresses. One of them is a little make-do, because the assignment came very much last minute. So we decided to sew together a shirt and a skirt and that'll have to do. I can't show it to you yet, because it's not ready yet.
The second dress is for a woman who is a psychiatric patient and thinks she's gone to heaven. She puts on a dress, walks up a table and recites some monologue. My classmate and me thought of making the skirt out of crochet, but we wanted to make it a little more unique and it has to be airy. So I thought of making plarn, plastic yarn. I found a tutorial here and got to it. I've been crocheting since thursday and I'm only halfway through. Still I'm satisfied, because halfway through means aproximately 1900 stitches! That's right, 1900 stitches, all of them single crochets.
Here's the progress so far. The skirt is 110 stitches wide and will overlap at the back. As you can probably imagine, I don't think I will ever forget how to do a single crochet ever.
After the basic skirt is finished I'll make a trim of double crochets that will hold long strips of tule and plastic. Then, a couple of flowers on the bodice and maybe something for her hair. I so hope it will look like we planned and I so hope the dress fits and nothing happens to it before opening night. I guess that's just stage fright :)

Don't rain on Charlie please
I'm not always bothered by rain. In fact, it makes plants and flowers grow and I love to have my street green and blooming. But why does it have to rain right now? There is a free silent movie on the field behind my house tonight! Charlie Chaplin's The Kid with live music and an explicator, in the open air! I'm so excited, can you tell? :)

Animated short about a toilet paper roll
I just realised I've never showed you guys this video! I started this blog to show off my creative stuff and I forget only like one of my favourite video's ever LOL.
I made this video for a project week at school. Once in a while we have a week with no classes so we can work on one big project. Such a relief, because it gives me the opportunity to dive into something really deep without distractions :)
The last time I signed up for theatrical storytelling, a class taught by Emiel Driesten, someone who graduated from the same study I'm taking. A fun guy who never taught before, but got the creative juices flowing in everyone!
The assignment was made to make you tell a story. You had to pick a daily, meaningless object or little situation (like toothpicks or turning off the alarm clock in the morning) and make it important. Elevate or enlighten something seemingly empty by adding rituals to it. My object was a roll of toilet paper.... Mind you, we had to pick the dumbest thing we could think of before we got the rest of the assignment. Then I chose a trail of rituals that has always been part of my life: those we have with pets. And then we got to pick our medium. Well that was easy, I wanted to do an animation video! Animation is one of my great loves in life :) The teacher though was a bit skiddish about having only 2.5 days left to write, draw, animate and edit an entire short. I was confident though, because if you're having fun, you don't really notice it's already midnight and you're still only halfway through editing... And I did finish in time!
So without further explanation, here is my animation video! Enjoy and let me know what you think!
P.S. The titleword 'rol' is the Dutch word for roll.
P.P.S. Turn on your sound, the music adds a lot and is not annoying, squeeky or screamy :)

Giveaway
Allright, I've given it a week and that's a long time for someone with as little patience as mine. Maybe creating something for a giveaway was too much to ask. Maybe I should have waited longer. Maybe people were just busy. Doesn't matter, I've decided to put the whole creative contest in the trash and have an old fashioned giveaway. I'm changing the theme and the rules too, but not the date.
As I said in my previous post, I'm really into crocheting lately. I've taught myself through youtube the night before my last evaluation day. I finished all my projects and had nothing left to do. That made me incredibly nervous, since I usually have to work late at night to round up the last things. So to keep mind and hands busy, I got some yarn and a crochet hook and sat behind my laptop trying to crochet. And whadayaknow?! I did it! Since then, I haven't stopped crocheting and trying out new stitches and patterns. So the prize is something crocheted :) That's all I am going to say about the prize for now; I want to keep it a surprise!
The new theme is rainbow, because I just love colors and it gives me some room to play around when making the prize. The rules are as follows:
1: you must be or become a follower of my blog
2: you can enter the giveaway until the 20th of june (which is my last evaluation day at school)
3: if you link back to this post on your blog or website, please use the button below or the one in my sidebar (it's not obligatory to mention the giveaway, but if you do I'd love to hear about it!)
4: let me know what your favourite color or color combination is
5: let me know wether or not you have one or more cats in your home (ruling your life and haunting your dreams no doubt :) )
6: answer in a comment on this post and let me know where you're from (you can enter the giveaway no matter where you live. As long as you have a mailman, you're fine!)

Patriotic thoughts
I was cleaning the bathroom this morning, which is my least favourite part of housekeeping. I turn my thoughts away from the scrubbing and instead try to let my mind of the leash. I thought I'd explain this to you, otherwise you might not understand how I got from shower drain to patriottism. I sometimes contemplate about my country and it's position in the world. Holland is tiny and yet quite influential, globally speaking. In about 350 km (220 miles) you can travel from north to south and yet we're reaching 17 million inhabitants. And what a varied people we are! So many colors, shapes and sizes that don't always coexist nicely. Except for when it comes to national pride, like the World Cup or The Queen's Birthday. Then, all of a sudden, everybody looks awesome in orange LOL!
This got me thinking on what excites me about my country and what it's known for. Most people think of the Dutch drug tolerance, tulips and wooden clogs. But please please realize that there is so much more to The Netherlands. We don't all use drugs and we certainly don't all wear clogs (seriously, I once met a girl who didn't believe I was Dutch because I was wearing shoes and spoke English!). We DO however all ride bikes and eat strange food. Licorice, hagelslag, kibbeling, stroopwafels (caramel filled thin waffles) and beer with foam really rock our boats, silly though they may seem to others.
Then I got to thinking about other countries and what they are (in)famous for, especially the USA. Before I started blogging I didn't know much about the States, except for what I learned from tv and movies and we all know those are deceitful. Since I started following blogs, I've gotten to know America in another way. Of course, I've never been there and haven't studied anything America-related, but still I feel like I've tasted a little bit of the American Way of Life through reading blogs, because they are written by real people and are about their daily lives and loves. And guess what? I've decided I want to visit the States, once I get the chance. The chance may be far away though, since I'm a student and travelling across the Atlantic is not cheap. Well, one can dream right?

Time for the party!
I got through judging day last tuesday! I passed all classes so far and I'm pretty confident about the grades that are yet to come. Those were the easier classes and I've had positive feedback from my teachers during the last eight weeks, so no worries.
So I think it's time for the followers party now! I've decided to do a giveaway and I already know what I'm giving away. Just have to make it and take some pictures for the blog. More details will follow later, but I think I've come up with something unique and exciting :)
In the mean time, have you seen this giveaway? The author of this blog, Carmen, is so generous! She's giving away a sawing machine! How 'bout that?! Click the picture below to go to Carmen's cool blog.
