Makeover time!

This weekend I really had to do homework. But since I've been doing homework nearly every day for the past couple of weeks I granted myself a day off. I spent it in my miniature world and boy was I needed there.
Alice had sent me countless emails telling me she wasn't sure about her looks. She likes her hair, but told me she wanted me to teach her how to pluck her eyebrows. And she asked why she couldn't put mascara on her painted on eyelashes. And then she complained about how the color of her lipstick made her look old. So it was time to give her a makeover. All girls like makeovers right?

I'll start with the before... Now, I agree with Alice on the brows. I think her manufacturer was going for a Neanderthal, bushy kind of look... And the lipstick does have that granny feel about it.

WARNING: this is a horrible mugshot of a beautiful lady! But what kind of makover would this be without a picture taken during the process. The plastic was to protect her clothes from paint and paintremover.

Then here's the endresult. I'm quite happy with it, especially since this is my first doll makeover ever. Really, my first ever, I didn't even cut my Barbies hair when I was a kid!
I gave Alice a pink shade of lipstick, not unlike my own favourite colour.I'm not completely satisfied with the lips, even though it looks better in real life than it does on the photograph. I stopped messing around though, afraid of really messing it up.
I also redid her eyebrows in a shade that fits her hair. It's a mixture of yellow ocre, burnt sienna, ivory white and prussian blue. Blue? Yes, blue to make it darker. A trick I learned in art school: mix up truly saturated colors (yellow, red, blue, green and brown) and you get black! I think I've blogged about that sometime before...
So, when I had black, I could redo Alices eyelashes. Finally mascara! Now she can go out and seduce some cute guys ;)

Now all that we have left to do is fix the hair and get her in a sassy dress and shoes. Then she'll be ready to go shopping with me on the Arnhem Dollhouse Show next weekend. I've been saving for a year and I can't wait. Of course, I can't look shabby while Alice looks fabulous. So I made myself a flower brooch. The petals are made of a curtain fabric sample and I hotglued some shiny ornaments in the heart of the flower. On the back is a safetypin, so I can hook it up to practically anything. I really love it and I'm going to wear it to my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary party :)

See ya soon!

  1. Alice looks so pretty! I love her new eyebrows! I don't think I would be brave enough to do this to my doll- I think we have the very same Heidi Ott doll :) Mine is named Rose :) Love your brooch too!!!! Have a great week!!!

  2. Thank you Kim! These dolls are so great in that you can pose them, pity that their looks are so boring.
I'll tell you a secret: I bought Alice a man! She doesn't know yet, because I want to spice him up first. You'll see them both in a lovestory soon :)
